Privacy
The Japan Idea ("we") is an independent publication about Japanese businesses. It is operated by ZENTOY Inc. (株式会社ZENTOY), Japan.
What we collect
- Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, we collect the email address you enter and, if you give it, your first name.
- Basic sign-up context. Our email provider records when you subscribed, which form you used, and the referring page or link tags, for example
utm_source=x. - Email engagement. Our email provider measures whether newsletters are opened and which links are clicked, in aggregate and per subscriber.
- No account, no payment data. This website has no user accounts. It does not use advertising trackers, and it does not process payments.
Why we use it
- To send you the newsletter you asked for, in the language you chose.
- To understand which stories and channels bring readers, so we can decide what to write next.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who processes it
- Kit (Kit.com) stores subscriber data and sends our emails.
- Cloudflare hosts this website. Cloudflare may process technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Both are service providers acting on our behalf, and both may process data outside Japan, including in the United States.
Your choices
- Every email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops all newsletters.
- To ask us to correct or delete your data, or to see what we hold about you, email [email protected].
How long we keep it
We keep subscriber data while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we remove it within a reasonable period, except where our providers must keep it, for example as a record of the unsubscribe.
